Alex Cardenas

Attorney
Alex is the grandson of an immigrant. His first language is Spanish. Born and raised in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, he earned his B.A. in Finance with minors in Management Information Systems and Business Law from Villanova University in 2015. He then completed a master’s degree in Government Organizations and Leadership before earning his J.D. from Creighton University School of Law in 2018. While in law school, Alex worked for an immigration law firm in Omaha called Kasaby Schmoke. He then moved to his wife’s home of Des Moines.  He spent two years working at a nonprofit organization formerly known as Justice for Our Neighbors, where he eventually became a managing attorney. There, he helped over 200 clients with their immigration cases. Alex went on to work at an Ames, Iowa, immigration law firm, Barten Law. During his two years at Barten Law, he assisted immigrants with immigration, criminal, and family law matters. Alex joined Iowa Lawyers in 2021, focusing on family-based immigration, humanitarian immigration, and removal defense cases. Court Admissions:
